Silvia Derbez

Actress. Born in San Luis de Potosí,  Mexico,  Derbez made her 1947 film debut in “La Novia del Mar” (“Girlfriend of the Sea.”) The following year she was seen in a classic of Mexican cinema,  “Allá en el Rancho Grande.” During the 1950s she won equal fame for her work in theatre, cinema and television. She also competed in the Miss Mexico contest in 1953,  winning second place. Derbez appeared in the soap opera “Nora” in 1958 and then acted in seventeen “telenovelas” during the 1960s, many of them in which she starred. One of her most celebrated roles was in one of Latin America’s most famed telenovelas, “Simplemente Maria”, in 1989. Her many credits also include “Tarzán y las Sirenas” (1948), “Baile mi Rey” (1951), “La Mujer X” (1954), “Quinto Patio” (1969) and “Zapatos Viejos” (1992).
