Ruth Leuwerik (Ruth Leuwerik)

Ruth Leuwerik

Actress.   She starred in over 40 films and television series in a career that spanned from the 1950s to the early 1980s.   She started on the theatrical stage, but went into films soon after with her first movie role coming in the 1950 film “Dreizehn unter einem Hut”.    Her glamorous film roles made her very popular with the film audience and she, along with fellow actor O.W. Fischer, made the “ideal film couple” during the 1950s.   Her film credits included “The Trapp Family in America” (1958), “Redhead” (1962), “Taiga” (1958), and “Portrait of an Unknown Woman” (1954).   Her best known role was of Maria von Trapp in both “The Trapp Family” and “The Trapp Family in America”, which was later remade into the hit film “The Sound of Music”.    She was a five time Bambi award winner. She appeared in mostly television roles in the later part of her career. (bio by: Mr. Badger Hawkeye)
