Singer and actress. Her real name was “María de los Ángeles de las Heras Ortíz”, though her friends and family called her “Marieta”. She made a total of 14 films and a myriad of top hit records, her latest just coming out months ago. The latest part of her career was dedicated to singing, becoming a world-known star, and one of the most popular “mexican rancheras” singer, as well as her normal ballads. Her career lasted 45 years, during which she appeared in the most famous theaters and music halls throughout the world. Rocío was a true lover of Latin America, where she was extremely loved, specially in Mexico. She received 5 Grammy nominations, as well as the Latin Lifetime Award by the Academy of Music and Arts in Spain, amongst other many awards. Rocío sold more than 50 million records during her career span, and was on tour for over 40 years. She was diagnosed with cancer in 2001 and fought with discretion until the disease overcame her in her home surrounded by her loved ones. She leaves behind her husband (Junior: another famous Spanish singer), two sons and daughter, and three grandchildren. Spain and the Latin world mourn her death, yet will always remember her happiness and talent.
