Paul F. Iams

Businessman. A self-taught animal nutritionist whese premium pet foods bearing his name are sold in 70 countries. He started the Iams Food Company at a feed mill in Tipp City, Ohio in 1946, after working for several years as a dog food salesman for a grain company. He later moved his company to Dayton, Ohio and sold it to Procter and Gamble Company in 1982. Among his products were Iams Plus, one of the first meat-based dog foods, and Iams Chunks for adult dogs. Eukanuba (meaning “supreme”) is the Iams Company super premium brand of dog food. In 1987, the Iams Company opened the Paul Iams Technical Center, a nutritional research center in Lewisburg, Ohio. Iams graduated from Ohio State University in 1937. Served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
