Patrick Henry Pearse

Irish Nationalist Revolutionary. A teacher, writer and emotional orator, he was a signatory to the Proclamation of the Republic. The military Commander-in-Chief during the Easter 1916 rising, he gave the unconditional surrender after one week, and was one of fourteen leaders of the uprising to be court-marshaled and executed by firing squad in Kilmainham Jail (a further 75 were condemned but reprieved).
