Michi Kobi

Actress. She is remembered for playing ‘Nurse Nakamura’ in the original Broadway production of “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” (1963 to 1964). Born Machiko Okamoto, she was forced along with her family to relocate to a Japanese prison camp in Utah during World War II. During her time while incarcerated, she participated in plays to pass the time. Following the war, she pursued a career in acting and began her career in American television during the 1950s with the program “The New Adventures of China Smith”. She starred in her motion picture debut “Tokyo After Dark” (1959) and followed this with the role of ‘Doctor Hideko Murata’ in the cult Science-Fiction picture “12 to the Moon”, which found further popularity as a feature on the TV program “Mystery Science Theater 3000”. She continued to have roles of substance during the 1960s with “Hell to Eternity” (1961) and “Cry for Happy” (1961). She appeared in a 2004 episode of the TV series “Law and Order”. (bio by: C.S.)
