Majel Barrett (Majel Leigh Hudec)

Majel Barrett

Actress. The wife of Gene Roddenberry, the creator of the “Star Trek” science fiction television and motion picture franchise, she is best known for her roles in the franchise as “Nurse Chapel” in the original 1960s television series, and as “Lwaxana Troi” in the 1980s and 1990s series “Star Trek: Next Generation” and “Deep Space Nine”. She holds the distinction of being the only actor or actress to have been involved in every incarnation of the show. Before her involvement in that seminal series, she appeared in episodes in the series “Bonanza”, “The Lucy Show”, and “The Lieutenant”, where she met and became friends with her future husband. When the first pilot episode of Star Trek was being produced, she was cast as “Number One” the second in command of the ship. When the network NBC objected to a woman being second in command, she was recast as Nurse Chapel. After her husband’s death in 1991, she not only continued her involvement in Star Trek, but also produced “Andromeda”, and “Earth: Final Conflict”.
