Actress, Author. Joyce Howard studied acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, and marked her professional debut on stage, in the midst of “The Blitz” by Germany, during the early part of World War II. Not long after, she launched her film career in the picture “A Voice in the Night” (1941), and would appear in more than a dozen features during the 1940s and early 1950s, notably opposite James Mason in “They Met in the Dark” (1943); her other credits include “The Gentle Sex” (1943), “Mrs. Fitzherbert” (1947) and “Shadow of the Past” (1950). Howard retired from the entertainment industry during the 1950s to raise her family, but returned briefly to appear in episodes of the TV programs “Armchair Theatre” and “The Younger Generation”. She would write the play “Broken Silence” for British TV, and become an accomplished author, following her moving to California during the early 1960s; she published the books “Two Persons Singular” (1960), “A Private View” (1961) and “Going On” (2000). Joyce Howard later became an executive story editor with Paramount Television.
