Ivy Andrews

MLB player. Andrews signed a baseball contract in 1929 and made his Major League debut in 1931 with the New York Yankees. His teammates included Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Bill Dickey, and Lefty Gomez. Andrews also pitched for the Boston Red Sox, St. Louis Browns, and Cleveland Indians. With St. Louis, he won the 1934 World Series. With the Yankees, he won the 1937 and 1938 World Series. He was thought by the experts to have the best curveball in the majors. His last year in pro baseball was 1947 with the Birmingham Barons as a pitching coach.

Andrews was inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame in 1985.
