Gustav Fröhlich

Actor. He debuted on stage with the name Gustav Geef. In 1922 he made his debut on screen, with “Paganini” in the role of the composer Franz Liszt. But he is best remembered for his role in classic german film of Fritz Lang “Metropolis.” In the 1930s, he appeared in different German version of American movies like “Die heilige Flamme” (30) and “Kismet” (31). One of his greatest successes was in “Oberwachtmeister Schwenke” (1934). Between 1931 and 1935 Gustav Fröhlich was get married with the actress Gitta Alpar, later he lived together with actress Lida Baarova, with who he also realised some movies. Since 1941 Fröhlich had to report for duty for the Wehrmacht. He also worked in “Die Sünderin” (1950). Soon, he retired from the film business and from 1956 to his death, he lived in Switzerland.
