Gertrude Niesen

Actress, Singer. Born in New York City, she was a natural singer whom achieved her greatest successes, in music and in movies, during the big-band era. In 1934, she was cast in the Broadway musical “Calling All Stars” followed by “The Ziegfeld Follies” of 1936. During the 1940s, she recorded for Decca records with hits to include “Old CafĂ© Time”, “Isle in the West Indies”, “Where Are You”, “I Want to Make with the Happy Times” and “I Wanna Get Married”. For feature films, she appeared in “Yacht Party” (1932), “Top of the Town” (1937), “Rockies on Parade” (1941), “This Is the Army” (1943), “He’s My Guy” (1943), and “The Babe Ruth Story” (1948).
