Georgia  Bitner

Film and Television Actress. She was an African American film and television actress whose career expanded over a period of seven decades. Born Georgia Rose Bitner, in honor of the state in which she was born, “Georgia”. During her younger years she adored such actors as Hattie McDanial and Josephine Baker so much until her intentions was to become a dancer until she became a nurse making a living working for the American Red Cross during World World II. At the age of 20 she moved to Los Angeles and pursued a career in acting and made her screen debut (uncredited) in “The Best Years of Our Lives” (1946). In 1947 she followed up with “Out of the Past”, “The File on Thelma Jordon” (1949), “The Asphalt Jungle” (1950), and “The Bad and The Beautiful”(1952). Other film credits include parts in “A Star Is Born” (1954), “Peyton Place” (1957), “Sunday In New York” (1963), “Halloween” (1978), and “Betsy’s Wedding” (1990). Her appearance on television shows include “Ozzie and Harriet”, “I Love Lucy”, “My Three Sons”, “Bewitched”, “The Jeffersons”, “Living Single” and “In Living Color”. Her last acting role was her appearance in the TV drama “Cold Case”. Because she also appeared in supporting roles instead of lead roles she was jokingly referred to as “Hollywood’s Second Banana”.
