Erik Blegvad (Erik Blegvad)

Erik Blegvad

Literary illustrator. Mr Blegvad began illustrating books when he immigrated to the United States in 1951, and illustrated over 100 children’s books, some of which are “Bedknob and Broomstick,” which may be his most famous, “This Little Pig-a-Wig and Other Rhymes About Pigs,” which was named one of the best illustrated children’s books of the year in 1978 by The New York Times Book Review, “The Gammage Cup,” “The Tenth Good Thing About Barney,” and “Mud Pies and Other Recipes.” His illustrations were both pen and ink and watercolor, and he also illustrated books by Hans Christian Andersen, such as “The Perfect Wizard.” In addition, Mr. Blegvad contributed to many American Magazines, such as Woman’s Day and Esquire. A 1996 review in The Washington Post of his illustrations of Andersen’s famous tales called him a “modern master.” After “Hurry, Hurry, Mary Dear,” his 100th work, was released, he was quoted as saying he was, “extra lucky to make an income from something that’s a wonderful thing to be doing.”   (bio by: Daddys♥Girl)
