Italian-born film actor. Originally intended to be a surgeon until tapped by filmmaker Dino De Laurentis for the lead role in “The Captain’s Daughter” (1947). Appeared in “Catch Me if You Can” (1959), “Tender is the Night” (1961), “Gidget Goes to Rome” (1963), “Cleopatra” (1963), “Viva Las Vegas” (1964), “Boy, Did I Get a Wrong Number” (1966) and “National Lampoon’s Animal House” (1978).
