Bob Evans

Restaurateur. Born Robert Evans in Sugar Ridge, Ohio,  he moved to Gallipolis, Ohio in the early 1940’s and bought a restaurant named the Malt Shop. After being inducted into the army, he sold the Malt Shop to a friend. In 1945, after serving in World War II, he worked for a family owned packing company. The following year, near Gallipolis, Ohio, he opened a restaurant named the Terminal Steakhouse which later would be named Bob Evans Steak house. The restaurant became a very popular place to eat breakfast.  In 1948, Bob began making his own breakfast sausage from his farm in Bidwell, Ohio. In 1961, he opened a restaurant on his farm which became the first in a chain of restaurants that made up  Bob Evans Farms, Inc. He retired as president of the company in 1986.  At the time of his death, there were 579 Bob Evans restaurants in 18 states.
