British Musician. Raised in a working-class family, Osbourne faced a challenging childhood, struggling with dyslexia and various run-ins with the law. But his life would soon take a legendary turn when music became both his salvation and his legacy. In 1968, Ozzy co-founded the pioneering heavy metal band Black Sabbath, alongside Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward. Their self-titled debut album, released in 1970, marked the birth of a new genre — dark, heavy, and unlike anything rock audiences had heard before. With Osbourne’s haunting vocals and the band’s doom-laden sound, Black Sabbath produced classics like “Paranoid,” “War Pigs,” and “Iron Man,” cementing their place in music history. Despite the band’s success, Ozzy left Black Sabbath in 1979 and launched an iconic solo career. His debut solo album, “Blizzard of Ozz” (1980), included hits like “Crazy Train” and “Mr. Crowley,” showcasing his unique ability to blend heavy riffs with eerie theatrics. Over the next four decades, he released numerous successful albums, toured the world and became one of heavy metal’s most recognizable figures. In the early 2000s, Ozzy gained a new kind of fame with the MTV reality show “The Osbournes” (2002 to 2005), which introduced him to a new generation and showed a more humorous, vulnerable side of the rock icon. Ozzy’s influence on music is undeniable. He’s often referred to as “The Godfather of Heavy Metal,” and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice: with Black Sabbath in 2006 and as a solo artist in 2024. Despite numerous health battles — including a diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease in 2003 — he continued to record and connect with fans. Married to his longtime manager Sharon Osbourne, with whom he shared three children, Ozzy’s life had been one of reinvention, chaos, and resilience. Whether howling on stage in a blizzard of sound or mumbling through a reality show, he remains one of the most enduring and beloved figures in rock history — a true Prince of Darkness. Ozzy was laid to rest where he died a week earlier, at Welders House. The Grade II British estate he and Sharon purchased in 1993 is located in Buckinghamshire.
