Biography

David Ben-Gurion was born on October 16, 1886, in Płońsk, Poland, where his early life was shaped by the stirrings of Jewish nationalism and the desire for a homeland. He would dedicate his life to the Zionist movement, becoming one of its most influential leaders and architects of modern Israel’s founding vision.

As a politician and statesman, Ben-Gurion served as Prime Minister of Israel during two separate periods: from 1948 to 1953 and again from 1955 to 1963. During these formative years, he guided the young nation through its critical early decades, working to establish its institutions and secure its place in the world.

On December 1, 1973, Ben-Gurion passed away in Jaffa at the age of 87, following a stroke. His legacy endured beyond his lifetime, and he was laid to rest at Midreshet Ben-Gurion in the Ramat Negev Regional Council, a fitting final resting place that honored his profound commitment to building the Jewish state. His contributions to Israel’s founding and development remain central to the nation’s history.
