Biography

Marcus Aemilius Lepidus lived through one of the most transformative periods in Roman history, serving as a key political figure during the final decades of the Republic. Born on January 1, 89 BCE in Ancient Rome, he would come to hold extraordinary power as a member of the Second Triumvirate, the governing coalition that reshaped the Roman state following the civil wars of the late Republic.

As one of three men entrusted with supreme authority over Rome, Lepidus played a crucial role in the political settlements and military campaigns that defined his era. His membership in the triumvirate placed him among the most influential figures of his time, though his legacy would be forever intertwined with those of his more celebrated colleagues.

Lepidus spent his final years in Circeii, a coastal region of Latium, where he died on January 1, 12 BCE at the considerable age of 77. His long life spanned decades of dramatic change, witnessing Rome’s transition from republican institutions toward a new political order that would endure for centuries to come.
