Biography

Humayun was born on March 6, 1508, in Kabul, arriving into a world of vast empires and political ambition. He would go on to become the second Mughal emperor, inheriting a throne that commanded significant territories and influence across the Indian subcontinent. His life spanned nearly half a century, during which he navigated the complex responsibilities of imperial rule and the challenges of maintaining dynastic power.

His reign was divided into two distinct periods: he first ruled from 1530 to 1540, then again from 1555 until his death in 1556. This separation reflects the turbulent nature of his reign, marked by periods of both authority and exile. Despite the fragmentation of his rule, Humayun remained a significant figure in Mughal history, overseeing an empire during a transformative era.

Humayun died on February 6, 1556, in Delhi, following a fall. His death marked the end of a life spent in pursuit of imperial stability and legacy. He was laid to rest at Humayun’s Tomb in the South East Delhi district of India, a monument that would become one of the finest examples of Mughal architecture and endure as a lasting testament to his memory.
