Biography

Charles I was born on November 29, 1600, at Dunfermline Palace in Scotland. He ascended to the throne in 1625, becoming King of England, Scotland, and Ireland during a period of significant political and religious tension throughout his realms. His reign spanned nearly a quarter-century, a time marked by growing conflict between Crown and Parliament over matters of governance, taxation, and religious authority.

On February 9, 1649, Charles I’s life ended at the Palace of Whitehall through decapitation, an extraordinary act that reflected the profound divisions that had torn his kingdoms apart. His death marked a watershed moment in English history, representing the ultimate consequence of the civil conflicts that had dominated his later years. Following his death, he was laid to rest at St George’s Chapel in Windsor, where his remains were interred with the dignity befitting a monarch, despite the turbulent circumstances that had preceded his passing.
