Biography
Frederick II was born on January 24, 1712, in Berlin, entering the world as a Prussian prince during a formative period in European history. From his earliest days, he was groomed for leadership, a destiny that would shape not only his personal life but the fate of an entire nation.
In 1740, Frederick ascended to the throne of Prussia, beginning a reign that would span forty-six years. During his time as king, he navigated the complex political landscape of eighteenth-century Europe, establishing himself as a significant figure in continental affairs through both diplomacy and military strategy.
On August 17, 1786, Frederick’s life came to an end in Potsdam, his death following a period of declining health. His final resting place was Sanssouci Palace, the magnificent estate in Potsdam that reflected both his refined tastes and his enduring legacy. Frederick II left behind a transformed Prussia and a reign remembered as one of the most consequential in European history.
