Biography

Cao Rui was a Chinese emperor of the Cao Wei dynasty who ruled from 226 until his death in 239. Born on January 1, 205, he ascended to the throne during a pivotal period in Chinese history, when the empire remained divided among competing regional powers. His reign would span thirteen formative years during the Three Kingdoms era, a time of significant military and political development.

During his thirteen years as emperor, Cao Rui oversaw important administrative and military matters that shaped Cao Wei’s position among the rival kingdoms. His leadership during this tumultuous period left an imprint on the dynasty’s legacy, though historical records reveal relatively limited detail about specific achievements or policies. Despite the challenges inherent in ruling during such a fragmented era, he maintained his throne until his final days.

Cao Rui died on January 22, 239, in Luoyang, the capital city of Cao Wei. His remains were interred at Gaoping Tomb in Ruyang County, where he was laid to rest. Though his life spanned only thirty-four years, his position as emperor during the Three Kingdoms period ensures his place in Chinese dynastic history. His tomb stands as an enduring monument to his reign and his family’s influence over the northern territories they controlled.
