Biography
Suharto was born on June 8, 1921, in Kemusuk, Indonesia. Over the course of his life, he would come to hold significant influence in his nation’s history, serving as the second President of Indonesia from 1968 to 1998, as well as in the capacity of Acting President. His lengthy tenure marked a defining period in Indonesia’s development as an independent nation during the latter half of the twentieth century.
Throughout his years of public service, Suharto navigated Indonesia through a complex era of political transformation and nation-building. His leadership spanned three decades, a period of substantial change for the country and its people. He remained a prominent figure in Indonesian life until his death, continuing to maintain a presence in the nation he had served for so long.
