Biography

Harald Bluetooth was born on January 1, 911, in Denmark, during a transformative period in Scandinavian history. He would go on to become King of Denmark and Norway, wielding considerable influence over the Nordic regions during the tenth century. His life spanned nearly three-quarters of a century, a remarkable length for his era, during which he left a lasting mark on the kingdoms he ruled.

Little is formally recorded about the specific circumstances of Harald’s death on November 6, 985, in Jomsborg, though this date marks the end of a long and significant reign. His legacy, however, extended beyond his lifetime. The respect accorded to his memory was evident in his final resting place: Roskilde Cathedral in Roskilde Municipality, Denmark, one of the most important burial sites in the Danish kingdom. This choice of burial ground underscored his status and importance to the realm he had governed.

Harald Bluetooth remains a notable figure in Scandinavian medieval history, remembered as a ruler who guided Denmark and Norway through a consequential period of development and change.
