Biography

Godfrey of Bouillon was born on January 1, 1060, in Boulogne-sur-Mer, a coastal town in northern France. A Medieval Frankish knight of considerable prominence, he lived during a transformative period in European history marked by significant religious and military movements across Christendom.

Godfrey spent his life in service during an era of great change, eventually making his way to Jerusalem, where he would spend his final years. He died there on July 25, 1100, having witnessed and participated in the profound events that defined his time. His death marked the end of a remarkable journey that had taken him from his birthplace in Boulogne to the holy city itself.

His commitment to his faith was honored through his burial at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem’s Old City, one of Christendom’s most sacred sites.
