Biography

Antipater I of Macedon was born on January 1, 309 BC and came of age during a period of significant transition in the ancient Macedonian kingdom. He would eventually rise to prominence as a ruler during one of the most dynamic eras in Macedonian history, when the kingdom faced both opportunities and challenges in maintaining its power and influence.

During his reign from 297 to 294 BC, Antipater I governed jointly with his brother Alexander V, sharing the responsibilities of leadership during a time of considerable political complexity. This partnership reflected the sometimes fractious nature of Macedonian succession, where power was frequently divided among family members. Though his time as king was relatively brief, spanning only three years, his rule represented an important chapter in the continuity of the Macedonian throne.

Antipater I of Macedon passed away on January 1, 286 BC, having lived seventy-three years. While the specific circumstances of his death and the location of his burial remain unknown to history, his life marked a notable period in the evolution of one of antiquity’s most influential kingdoms. He is remembered as part of the complex succession of rulers who shaped Macedon during its post-classical era.
