Biography
Antiochus I Theos of Commagene was born on January 1, 85 BCE and ruled as king of Commagene, a Hellenistic kingdom located in what is now southern Turkey. As a member of the Armenian Orontid dynasty, he inherited a rich royal lineage and governed during a pivotal period in the ancient Near East, when Greek and Persian cultural influences intersected in the region.
During his reign, Antiochus I left an enduring mark on history through monumental architecture and religious devotion.
