Biography

Injong of Joseon was born on March 7, 1515, within the walls of Gyeongbokgung Palace, entering a world of royal duty and dynastic responsibility. As the twelfth king of the Joseon Dynasty, he inherited a kingdom shaped by centuries of Korean tradition and governance. His life, though brief, was devoted to the sacred obligations that came with his position, serving as a steward of his nation during a significant period in Korean history.

King Injong’s reign represented an important chapter in the Joseon Dynasty’s long narrative. Born and raised in the royal palace, he spent his entire life in service to his kingdom and its people. On July 11, 1545, at the age of thirty, his earthly journey came to an end within the same palace where he had begun his life, claimed by disease. Though his time was short, his legacy remained woven into the fabric of Joseon history.

Following royal custom, King Injong was laid to rest at Hyoreung, located in present-day Goyang, South Korea, where his memory continues to be honored. His tomb stands as a testament to his place in the royal lineage and the enduring significance of his reign during a formative era of the Korean peninsula.
