Biography

Horst Wessel was born on October 9, 1907, in Bielefeld, Germany, during a period of significant change in his nation. He grew to adulthood during the turbulent years following the First World War, a time that shaped the experiences and choices of his generation in profound ways. His life, though brief, intersected with the defining events of his era.

Wessel served as an officer in the SA, an organization that played a notable role in the political movements of early twentieth-century Germany. His service reflected the commitments and convictions that guided his short life. On February 23, 1930, at just twenty-two years of age, Wessel’s life came to an end in Berlin under circumstances that remain largely undocumented in historical record.

He was laid to rest at St. Marien- und St. Nikolai-Friedhof I in Pankow, Germany, where his memory has been preserved. Though his years were few, Wessel’s name endured in the historical consciousness of his time and beyond. He remains a figure from a distant chapter of history, remembered across the generations.
