Edmond Debeaumarché 1906 – 1959
Biography
Edmond Debeaumarché was born on December 15, 1906, in Dijon, France, during a time of relative peace in Europe. His early years unfolded in the heart of the Burgundy region, where he would develop the character and conviction that would later define his life’s most significant chapter. Though his early biography remains largely private, Edmond’s true legacy would emerge during one of history’s darkest periods.
When Nazi occupation threatened France, Edmond answered the call to resistance. Like many brave citizens who rejected tyranny, he joined the French Resistance movement, risking his safety and freedom to work against occupation forces. His service during World War II reflected a deep commitment to his country’s liberation and the principles of freedom that he held dear.
Edmond lived to see France liberated, though the war years had taken their toll. He passed away on March 28, 1959, in Suresnes, at the age of fifty-two. His final resting place is Péjoces Cemetery in Dijon, not far from his birthplace—a quiet corner of the earth that honors a man who refused to remain silent in the face of injustice. Edmond Debeaumarché’s memory endures as a testament to the courage of those who stood for freedom.
