Margaret Tudor 1489 – 1541
Biography
Margaret Tudor was born on December 7, 1489, at the Palace of Westminster, entering a world of royal privilege and dynastic significance. Her life would span the tumultuous early years of the Tudor and Stuart monarchies, positioning her at the center of some of the era’s most consequential events and relationships.
As Queen consort of Scotland, Margaret carried the weight of her station with the dignity expected of European royalty during the Renaissance period. She navigated the complex political landscape of her adopted kingdom with the experience and bearing that came from her upbringing among England’s most powerful family.
In her final years, Margaret suffered from palsy, a condition that gradually diminished her strength. She passed away on October 28, 1541, at Methven Castle, concluding a life that had spanned over fifty years of remarkable historical consequence. Her remains were laid to rest at Perth Charterhouse in Perth and Kinross, United Kingdom, where her memory was preserved among the sacred grounds of that religious community.
