Biography

Frank B. Kellogg was born on December 22, 1856, in Potsdam, beginning a life that would lead him into public service as an American politician. Though details of his early years remain modest in the historical record, Kellogg’s path eventually brought him to positions of civic responsibility and influence. He spent much of his life engaged in the work of governance and public affairs.

On December 21, 1937, just one day before his eighty-first birthday, Kellogg passed away in Saint Paul after contracting pneumonia. His death marked the end of a long life spent in service. The respect accorded to Kellogg is reflected in his final resting place: Washington National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., one of the nation’s most significant burial grounds. There he was interred among other notable Americans, a testament to the esteem in which he was held by his country.
