Biography

Heinrich Wilhelm Olbers was born on October 11, 1758, in the small town of Arbergen, Germany. He devoted his life to two noble professions: medicine and astronomy. Over the course of his long career, he became known throughout Europe for his contributions to astronomical science, earning recognition as one of the leading scientific figures of his era.

Throughout his lifetime, Olbers balanced his medical practice with his passion for observing the heavens. His work spanned the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, a period of remarkable scientific advancement. He remained active in both fields, making observations and discoveries that would influence astronomical knowledge for generations to come.

Olbers spent his final years in Bremen, where he continued his scientific work until his death on March 2, 1840, at the age of eighty-one. His legacy endured long after his passing, as his contributions to astronomy remained studied and respected. He was laid to rest at Riensberger Friedhof in Schwachhausen, Germany, a fitting resting place for a man whose life had been devoted to understanding both the human body and the vast cosmos above.
