Biography

Henry A. Wallace was born on October 7, 1888, in Orient and went on to serve his country with distinction during one of the nation’s most challenging periods. As Vice President of the United States from 1941 to 1945, he played a significant role during World War II, a time of unprecedented change and global conflict. His tenure in this high office reflected his commitment to public service and his dedication to the American people during critical years that shaped the future of the nation.

Wallace lived a full life of nearly 77 years before passing away on November 18, 1965, in Danbury. He succumbed to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a progressive neurological condition. His remains were laid to rest at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines, where he is remembered by those who knew him and studied his legacy.

His service as Vice President remains part of the historical record of American leadership during the Second World War and the complex political landscape of that era. Though his time in high office lasted four years, the impact of his contributions to the nation endured well beyond his vice presidency.
