Biography

Muhammadu Buhari was born on December 17, 1942, in Daura, a city in northern Nigeria with deep historical significance. Over more than four decades, he dedicated his life to public service, becoming one of Nigeria’s most prominent political figures. His influence on the nation’s trajectory spanned multiple decades, during which he held positions of considerable responsibility and shaped important moments in Nigeria’s modern history.

Buhari served as President of Nigeria during two distinct periods. His first tenure came from 1983 to 1985, followed by a second term from 2015 until his death in 2025. These presidencies represented different eras of Nigeria’s political evolution, and his leadership during these times left a lasting mark on the nation’s governance and development.

On July 13, 2025, Buhari passed away in London at the age of 82. In keeping with his connection to his birthplace and heritage, he was laid to rest in Daura, returning home in death to the community where his life had begun nearly eight decades earlier. His passing marked the end of a significant chapter in Nigeria’s political history.
