Biography

Calvin Coolidge was born on July 4, 1872, in the quiet town of Plymouth Notch, Vermont, arriving on the nation’s Independence Day. He would go on to serve as the 30th President of the United States, holding office from 1923 until 1929. His life spanned a transformative era in American history, from the post-Civil War period through the prosperous 1920s.

Coolidge’s presidency came during a time of economic growth and modernization in the United States. He brought a steady, measured approach to leadership during these years of national progress and change. Though his time in office would eventually conclude, the impact of his service remained part of the nation’s historical record.

On January 5, 1933, Coolidge passed away in Northampton, Massachusetts, at the age of 60, succumbing to a myocardial infarction. His final resting place was chosen to reflect his roots—he was laid to rest in Plymouth Notch Cemetery in his native Vermont, returning to the small town where his life had begun. In death as in life, Calvin Coolidge remained connected to the New England soil that shaped him.
