Biography

Pythagoras was born on January 1, 582 BCE, on the island of Samos in ancient Greece, during a time when philosophical thought was beginning to flourish throughout the Mediterranean world. He would become one of history’s most influential Greek philosophers and mathematicians, leaving a profound mark on both disciplines that would resonate through the centuries.

Throughout his life, Pythagoras devoted himself to the pursuit of knowledge and understanding of the natural world. His work bridged the gap between pure mathematics and philosophical inquiry, establishing connections between abstract numbers and the physical universe that fascinated thinkers for generations to come.

Pythagoras spent his final years in Metapontum, in southern Italy, where he continued his intellectual work until his death on January 1, 490 BCE. Though the exact circumstances of his passing remain unknown to history, his legacy endured far beyond his lifetime, shaping the course of Western philosophy and mathematics in ways that remain relevant to this day. His contributions to human knowledge and his dedication to seeking truth established him as one of antiquity’s most remarkable thinkers.
