Biography

Yuri Andropov was born on June 15, 1914, in Soluno-Dmitriyevskoye, during a transformative period in Russian history. He would go on to become General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, one of the most influential positions in the twentieth century. His leadership came during crucial years of Cold War tensions and domestic Soviet challenges.

Andropov’s tenure as General Secretary reflected his commitment to addressing the issues he saw facing the Soviet state.
