Stephen II of Hungary 1101 – 1131
Biography
Stephen II of Hungary was born on January 1, 1101, in Székesfehérvár, the royal heart of the Hungarian kingdom. He would spend his entire life connected to this city, which held deep significance as both the seat of power and the place of his birth. From 1116 until his death, Stephen II served as King of Hungary, carrying forward the legacy of his royal lineage during a formative period in Hungarian history.
His reign spanned fifteen years, a period during which he held the responsibilities of the crown during his relatively brief life. Stephen II died on March 8, 1131, at the age of thirty, succumbing to dysentery in his native Székesfehérvár. His final resting place remained in the city where he was born, as he was interred in Székesfehérvár, completing a life wholly centered in this important center of Hungarian royal authority and tradition.
