Sepp Dietrich 1892 – 1966
Biography
Sepp Dietrich was born on May 28, 1892, in Hawangen, a small town in Bavaria. He would go on to become a prominent military officer in twentieth-century Germany, serving in leadership capacities during one of history’s most consequential and troubled periods.
Dietrich’s military career spanned decades and placed him in positions of significant responsibility. His service culminated in his role as a general within the Waffen-SS, the armed wing of the Nazi organization. Following the conclusion of World War II, he faced justice through military tribunals, where he was convicted as a war criminal—a legal determination that reflected the gravity of actions taken under his command during the Nazi era.
On April 22, 1966, Dietrich died in Ludwigsburg at the age of 73, his death resulting from myocardial infarction. He was laid to rest in Ludwigsburg, in the Ludwigsburg District of Baden-Württemberg, Germany, where his remains continue to rest.
