Biography

Robert II of France was born on April 1, 972, in Orléans, during a pivotal era in medieval European history. He would go on to serve as King of the Franks for thirty-five years, from 996 until his death in 1031, a reign that spanned more than a third of a century. His long tenure as monarch placed him among the notable figures of the early medieval period, during a time of significant cultural and political development in the Frankish realm.

On July 26, 1031, Robert II passed away in Melun, concluding a life that had been intricately woven into the fabric of medieval France. Though the specific circumstances surrounding his death were not recorded for posterity, his passing marked the end of an important chapter in Frankish governance.

Robert II was laid to rest at the Basilica of Saint-Denis in Saint-Denis, France, one of the most significant religious and burial sites in the kingdom. This final resting place reflected the prominence of his station and the importance of his role in shaping the medieval French kingdom during his three decades of rule.
