Biography

Reza Shah was born on March 15, 1878, in the village of Alasht, beginning a life that would reshape the course of Iranian history. Rising from modest origins, he would eventually ascend to become Shah of Iran, ruling the nation from 1925 until 1941. As founder of the Pahlavi Dynasty, Reza Shah established a royal lineage that would endure for generations and leave an indelible mark on Iran’s political and cultural landscape.

Throughout his reign, Reza Shah left a complex legacy in Iran’s modern development. His leadership during a transformative period in the nation’s history reflected the ambitions and challenges of early twentieth-century governance. Though his rule ultimately ended in 1941, the institutional foundations he established would continue to influence Iranian affairs long after his departure from power.

Reza Shah spent his final years abroad, far from his homeland. He died on July 26, 1944, in Johannesburg, South Africa, succumbing to cardiovascular disease at the age of sixty-six. His remains were interred at the Reza Shah Mausoleum in Ray County, Iran, where he was laid to rest in a tomb befitting his historical significance and the dynasty he had founded.
