Biography

Quett Masire was born on July 23, 1925, in Kanye, Botswana, during a time of significant change in southern Africa. He went on to become President of Botswana, serving during a formative period in the nation’s history and development. Throughout his life, Masire remained connected to his roots in Kanye, the place of his birth.

On June 22, 2017, Quett Masire passed away in Gaborone following surgical complications. His death marked the end of a notable chapter in Botswana’s political history. He was laid to rest in Kanye, returned to the community where his life began nearly a century earlier, completing a full circle of service and dedication to his country and people.
