Petr Ginz 1928 – 1944
Biography
Petr Ginz was born on February 1, 1928, in Prague, during a time of relative peace in Czechoslovakia. He spent his early childhood in his native city, where he would have experienced the vibrant culture and community of Prague’s Jewish population. His life, though brief, would come to embody the profound tragedy that befell millions during one of history’s darkest periods.
In September 1944, at just sixteen years old, Petr died at Auschwitz concentration camp. He perished from asphyxia, one of countless victims of the Nazi Holocaust. His remains were interred at Auschwitz in Oświęcim County, Poland, where he became part of the tragic record of those murdered in the camp’s gas chambers.
Petr’s life represents the millions of young people whose futures were stolen by hatred and systematic genocide. Though his time on earth was cut devastatingly short, his memory endures as a testament to the victims of the Holocaust and a reminder of the consequences of prejudice and intolerance.
