Louis III of Naples 1403 – 1434
Biography
Louis III of Naples was born on October 4, 1403, in Angers, a time of considerable dynastic complexity in medieval Europe. Throughout his life, he held several significant titles that reflected his noble standing: he was a titular king of Naples, count of Provence, and duke of both Anjou and Calabria. These positions placed him within the intricate networks of power that shaped the Italian peninsula and southern France during the early fifteenth century.
His life, though marked by considerable rank and responsibility, was tragically brief. Louis III died on November 21, 1434, in Cosenza at just thirty-one years of age, succumbing to malaria. His death cut short what might have been a more extensive role in the political affairs of his era. Though his reign was limited by circumstance and duration, his titles and lineage ensured his place within the noble heritage of his time, connecting him to the great houses that governed medieval Europe’s most influential regions.
