Biography

Joachim Murat was born on March 25, 1767, in Labastide-Murat, a small village in southwestern France. Rising through the ranks of his era, he would come to hold positions of extraordinary prominence, serving as Grand Duke of Berg and Cleves and ultimately ascending to the throne as King of Naples. His life spanned a transformative period in European history, during which he wielded significant political and military influence across the continent.

Murat’s life came to an end on October 13, 1815, in Pizzo, where he died from a gunshot wound. This marked the conclusion of a remarkable, if turbulent, chapter in European affairs during the Napoleonic era. He was laid to rest at his grave in the 20th arrondissement of Paris, France, where his memory has been preserved for subsequent generations to remember his complex legacy and the significant role he played in the tumultuous events of his time.
