Gideon Welles (1802–1878) was an American government official; United States Secretary of the Navy from 1861 to 1869. Born July 1, 1802 in Glastonbury. Died February 11, 1878 in Hartford. Interred at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford, United States.
