Géza II of Hungary

Biography

Géza II was born on January 1, 1130, in Tolna and rose to become King of Hungary and Croatia during a formative period in Central European history. His reign represented an important chapter in the medieval Hungarian kingdom, as he worked to consolidate power and maintain stability across his domains during the twelfth century.

Though his life was marked by the responsibilities of ruling vast territories, Géza II’s time as king was relatively brief. He died on June 7, 1162, in Székesfehérvár, the ancient heart of Hungarian royal power. His death came at only thirty-two years of age, cutting short what might have been a longer period of influence over the region.

Following his passing, Géza II was laid to rest with royal dignity in Székesfehérvár Basilica, the sacred burial place of Hungarian monarchs. His interment there reflected his status and importance to the kingdom, securing his place among Hungary’s remembered rulers in one of the nation’s most significant religious and historical sites.
