Biography

Georgy Zhukov was born on December 2, 1896, in the small village of Strelkovka. From these modest beginnings, he would rise to become one of the Soviet Union’s most prominent military figures, eventually achieving the distinguished rank of Marshal of the Soviet Union. His career spanned decades of service to his nation during transformative and challenging periods in Russian history.

Zhukov spent his life in military service, earning respect for his leadership and strategic capabilities. His path from a provincial village to the highest echelons of Soviet military command reflected both his abilities and his dedication to his country’s defense. Throughout his career, he navigated the complex demands of serving the Soviet state while building a reputation as a capable commander.

On June 18, 1974, Zhukov died in Moscow following a stroke at the age of 77. His contributions to Soviet military history were recognized through his burial at the Kremlin Wall Necropolis, one of Russia’s most prestigious final resting places, located in Moscow’s Tverskoy District. This honor reflected the significance of his legacy within Soviet memory and national identity.
