Biography

Friedrich Engels was born on November 28, 1820, in Barmen, Germany, during a time of profound social and economic transformation across Europe. His life would span the most turbulent decades of the nineteenth century, witnessing industrialization reshape society and inspire new ways of understanding human progress and social organization.

Engels devoted himself to philosophy, sociology, and economics, disciplines through which he sought to analyze and interpret the sweeping changes of his era. His intellectual pursuits took him across Europe and eventually to England, where he spent much of his later life engaged in scholarly work and reflection. His contributions to these fields left a lasting mark on how societies think about economics, social structure, and historical change.

On August 5, 1895, Friedrich Engels passed away in London at the age of seventy-four, succumbing to cancer. His death marked the end of a life dedicated to intellectual inquiry and to understanding the forces that shape human civilization. Though the specific location of his burial remains unrecorded, his legacy endures through the body of work he left behind—writings and ideas that continue to influence philosophical and social thought to this day.
